I was looking for a cover photo for Visualizing Math mobile, and came across this cool animation. From Wikimedia, it is an animation of the Dragon curve. (For anyone who has ever been curious about what Visualizing Math’s little icon is, this is it!)
The Dragon curve is a very fascinating fractal. It’s construction can be described as such: “Starting from a base segment, replace each segment by 2 segments with a right angle and with a rotation of 45° alternatively to the right and to the left.” (Wikipedia). Here’s an image demonstrating this process.
By the way, this fractal is on the section title pages of a well-know novel called Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton…enjoy the gif! :D
